In an effort to inform the citizens of Philadelphia to the dangerous cuts that are proposed for the Phila. Fire Dept., our union has started a website. The website contains many of the details that the Mayor and his cronies aren’t giving the public. It is not enough to simply say “No firehouse will close and no firefighter will be laid off.” That is just smoke and mirrors. He is attempting to shut down individual fire trucks and eliminate the positions of the firefighters manning them. The station may still be there but the trucks will be gone. It’s like saying “I’m not closing swimming pools (although he is) I’m just not putting any water in the.” So the pools may stay open but no one can swim in them. Get it?

So if you get a chance click over and see how big-city Mayors are taking advantage of the fiscal crisis to slash public safety.

We are also having a protest march on Dec 15 @ 11 am. We will march from 5th & Willow and rally at City Hall. If you live or work in the Center City area hope to see you there.

Ummm…well, if the financial crisis was caused because of too many houses on the market driving down the prices. Shutting down some fire statios should result in more fires which in turn will reduce the stock and that will drive the prices back up and then…problem solved.

    Best regards,

After seeing the way Philly votes. It may be for the best!

Good luck! Hope the people of Philly take your march seriously & wake up and smell the coffee. They need to see what Mayor Nutter is doing to the city. Aside from ALL the obvious danger the city will be in, those empty stations will be a breading ground for drug addicts and squatters thus plunging the city into further squaller.

  5. Well the stations won’t be completely empty, that’s his ploy. There will be a skeleton crew left behind. But like an Army outpost everyone knows how quickly you can get overrun.
Actually when the car companies were messing around with leases a couple years ago we had a dramatic increase in the number of new cars that were being torched. Lots of people decided to have the cars stolen and torched to get out of their leases. If people start doing that to get out of their mortgages we could have SERIOUS problems.
I’m not sure how much good it will do. These idiots seem hell bent on cutting us to the bone.
