"We don't have a policy on transferring firefighters". Then what do you call this?

This story appeared last night on FOX news here in Philly. It exposes our department’s current war on the rank and file firefighters. Currently we are over two years without a contract, as the City has decided to tie up our award in court. Since making drastic cuts to firefighting forces, firefighter injuries have steadily gone up, noticeably burns. We have had SEVERAL close calls in the last few months. In light of a recent study commissioned by the city, stress levels are through the roof these days. As if we needed any more stress ADDED to our jobs.

The department has been using threats and intimidation against members who are involved in traffic accidents (whether or not it’s their fault) and members who get injured doing one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet. Today as payback for the bad press, a Deputy Commissioner conducted SURPRISE inspections, in PLAIN CLOTHES at various stations around the city. Needless to say, this is little more than revenge and harassment designed to intimidate the field firefighters even more. One of his major complaints was that some stations had WIRELESS INTERNET access. Can you imagine that?

Our stations pay their cable bills out-of-pocket, and some have probably added internet service as part of their package. That comes out of the firefighters pockets, not the city’s. Hell, the MAYOR wanted to wire the entire city with FREE WIRELESS, yet we are being punished for living in 2012. Folks, we are in a fight for survival and I don’t see it getting better any time soon. Check out my buddy Mike’s report on this story.

No policy? It’s just a big coincidence. Yeah, right.

  4. Old NFO says:

I keep telling you and Wyatt, you need to move to America and get the F out of Philly… sigh

  5. Wyatt Earp says:

Every time I think the PPD is frakked up – and it is, royally – I remember the PFD, and thank God that I don’t work there.

Ayers has to go. In my opinion, he is the most corrupt, racist city official this town has seen in a queen’s age.

  6. Bob G. says:

Just be thankful the city doesn’t pay for all the VASELINE you all shouldn’t need to use…they couldn’t afford that bill!

Time to “trade up” for better bosses…and PRONTO!
