The costs are in and Occupy Philly left behind a hefty tab for the city to pick-up.

City Budget Director Rebecca Rynhart announced today that through Wednesday the city dished out a little more than $1 million, mostly in police overtime for the movement against corporate greed which began on Oct. 6.

That number is far lower than the city’s projected $2.5 million they had anticipated spending in police overtime if protesters stuck around on Dilworth Plaza until the end of the fiscal year, which ends June 30, according to the quarterly city manager’s report released Nov. 15. Rynhart said $930,000 was spent in police overtime and the remainder of costs includes clean-up.

“A big portion of [the costs] was in the last week with all of the activity that was taking place,” Rynhart said. “The cost in the last week were over $400,000 alone.” LINK

The “Occupy” losers cost this city a million plus tax-payer dollars. That’s money we don’t have and shouldn’t have ever spent. In a stunning example of Democrat political, fiscal and managerial incompetence this illegal action was permitted to go on long enough to cost this city a ton of money. Keep in mind a million dollars keeps a fully staffed fire company on the street 24-7 for an entire year. In that year those firefighters can expect to respond to between 2,500 and 3,000 emergency calls in all-weather and under any circumstances.

Those are real choices my friends.

By comparison this Mayor is STILL FIGHTING our contract that is over two years old at this point. How vulgar is that? Firefighters and Medics were standing by (without a contract) while the eviction circus played out even though the criminals being evicted were costing the city a fortune. The city is once again gearing up for budget cuts of at least 2% per department. A million dollars is money that wouldn’t be spent on any other event. Not Welcome America, the Mummers, St. Patty’s day or any of the other ethnic parades that take place throughout the year (unless there is a return for the city like tourist dollars from the Mummers). Even so permits are MANDATORY and FEES MUST BE PAID or no event. Allowing this horsesh*t to go on is typical left-wing politics. There is no way the Tea Party would be given this treatment by this city. That’s disgusting.

No right is absolute as these twenty-something misfits seem to think. The right to protest does not give you the right to disturb the peace, creat a fire hazard, obstruct the highway, assault the police, refuse legal orders, use drugs, rape women and children, or any of the other crimes associated with this insane tantrum. It’s high time our public officials get their heads out of their collective asses and start enforcing ALL of our laws, not just the ones they feel like.

    The funny part Capt.

The Tea Party has to post a bond costing them thousands.

    These jerks cost us instead.

Now I see why O-dumber endorsed these OWS jerks. Spending others peoples money.

  2. Brigid says:

Take the money out of the coffers for the public services these folks are protesting they deserve for breathing.

  3. Wyatt Earp says:

No worries, Cap. They’ll just take the money out of the snow plow fund and screw us in the Northeast when the blizzards hit. *spit*

  4. Yeah we’re not only expected to drive out of impassable neighborhoods in our own vehicles but we are expected to make it to work as well…

  5. Radicalron says:

Too bad “Occupy” didn’t put up a manger and Christmas tree on that city property. That would have gotten their sorry asses booted out much earlier.

  6. Old NFO says:

Unbelievable, especially in light of what the Tea Party was forced to do… but then again, I’m not surprised…
