(Reuters) – When the Netherlands built its first sea-based wind turbines in 2006, they were seen as symbols of a greener future. Towering over the waves of the North Sea like an army of giants, blades whipping through the wind, the turbines were the country’s best hope to curb carbon emissions and meet growing demand for electricity.

The 36 turbines — each one the height of a 30-storey building — produce enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 100,000 households each year.

But five years later the green future looks a long way off. Faced with the need to cut its budget deficit, the Dutch government says offshore wind power is too expensive and that it cannot afford to subsidize the entire cost of 18 cents per kilowatt hour — some 4.5 billion euros last year. The government now plans to transfer the financial burden to households and industrial consumers in order to secure the funds for wind power and try to attract private sector investment. LINK

Once again we see the outright folly of the “Green Energy Revolution” championed so mightily by the likes of the Obama administration and radical left. Windmills, solar panels, curly light bulbs and electric cars are examples of technologies we are all supposed to embrace according to the global warming crowd. Problem is these technologies fall way short of expectations and performance are of dubious safety standards, and have to be heavily subsidized by the government AKA the taxpayers in order to have a shot at competing at all. In some cases they actually pollute more than the technology they are supposed to replace. The result is higher energy costs for taxpayers while getting inferior technology as “Carbon Credit” schemes funnel billions in government subsidies to environmental insiders like Al Gore.

The left has deluded an entire generation of gullible young people into thinking we are all going to burn up or drown because of global climate change (it used to be global warming remember?). But their lies can only be sustained for so long. More and more we find out their conclusions are either wrong, misinterpreted or outright fraudulent. Now it is the Dutch and English who are beginning to reject the insane and extreme environmental fascism being foisted upon their society by these eco-zealots and charlatans.

In a withering assault on the onshore wind turbine industry, the Duke said the   farms were “a disgrace”.He also criticised the industry’s reliance on subsidies from electricity   customers, claimed wind farms would “never work” and accused people who   support them of believing in a “fairy tale”. The Duke’s comments will be seized upon by the burgeoning lobby who say wind   farms are ruining the countryside and forcing up energy bills. Criticism of their effect on the environment has mounted, with The Sunday   Telegraph disclosing today that turbines are being switched off during   strong winds following complaints about their noise. Crony capitalism is rampant in the green energy industry to the tune of billions of wasted dollars. From “weatherization” of houses unfit for habitation to millions and millions in government subsidies for companies that have never and will never produce a watt of electricity (Solyndra) the scam of man-made global warming grows unchecked. These companies only claim to fame is being heavily invested in campaign contributions to left leaning governments around the world. Sooner or later people will finally have enough of this insanity.  Hopefully it won’t be too late.

Someone please remind me why we are supposed to be happy going back to pre-historical tech instead of using nuclear energy? That tech is clean reliable and safe. Grrrrggghh!

    Oh so true, thank you!

    Well said!!!

  5. Randal Graves says:

“In some cases they actually pollute more than the technology they are supposed to replace.”

    Which ones?

    • Electricity is one. Where do you think the power comes from for all those Priussessesesess….
Not to mention the disposal of the batteries… hundreds of thousands of them.

      • Randal Graves says:

The emissions from a power plant to generate electricity is MUCH lower than the emissions from ICE powered cars.

How does recycling batteries cause more pollution? If you’re saying that throwing batteries into a landfill is bad, then your problem isn’t with batteries, it’s with the dopes that throw them in the garbage.

      • Electric generation is the most polluting industry. Increasing electric demand (millions of electric cars) will increase pollution.
In turn you also INCREASE power consumption recycling all those batteries.

The key flaw in the liberal recycle mantra is that they ignore the fact recycling is an energy intensive industry in its own right. Takes a lot of power to recycle all those batteries. Takes lots of trucks to haul them back and forth from factory to consumer to recycler. They consume lots of deisel fuel and create more emissions.

So while liberals feel all smug for driving a battery powered Prius, they are probably following a truck hauling their spent batteries to the recycler and breathing emissions from the power plant that powered their “Clean” “Green” commute. MMMM, MMMM, MMMMM!
        Hope Change.

      • Randal Graves says:

That fine, you disagree. Enjoy the dark ages with your stereotypical “No one’s changing the way I do things” attitude.
