PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia firefighters worked to extinguish a two-alarm fire at a vacant restaurant in Northeast Philadelphia. Crews responded to the Chi Chi’s on the 500 block of Franklin Mills Circle for reports of a fire just after 6 p.m.
Upon arrival, officials immediately called for a second alarm. Chopper 3 HD was over the scene where flames and heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the roof. The fire was placed under control just before 7:45 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Shortly after the Oberfrau and I were married she got her first job at this very restaurant. In fact she got hired BEFORE it opened. She stopped in one day while it was still under construction and talked with the manager who basically hired her on the spot. She worked there for a year or more before moving on.
It’s ridiculous how bad the economy is. This Chi Chi’s has been closed for a while and today it finally went up in flames. It’s my opinion that unoccupied buildings just don’t burst into flames without some help, but the Fire Marshall is investigating this job and will make the final determination as to the cause. In any event it’s a cold night and this area is wide open. As usual the firemen are doing the best they can with what they have. Thankfully none of the firefighters were injured.
Yet another extra alarm fire in Philly. The beat goes on…
