Today I join our nation in remembering the birthday of the United States Marine Corps (The Dallas Cowboys of the armed forces *snark*). The Marines are a proud and glorious bunch and I respect that. By a strange twist of fate I ended up in the Army instead of the Marine Corps but that’s a story for another day.

Quite frankly there isn’t enough Marine Corps thinking in our world anymore. Pride, dedication, hard work, fortitude, all the things the Marines are known for are rapidly disappearing from our society. That’s a shame. Anyway if you are in Philly, the place to be is Cookies Tavern at 10th & Oregon where the Marines celebrate their history every year in typical Marine Corps style: They get drunk and beat each other up (I’M KIDDING). Seriously we all owe the Marines and all our service members a debt of gratitude for their incredible sacrifices on our behalf. Happy Birthday ladies. It’s your day, enjoy it.

Semper Fi.

I began today’s post at my blog with a “salute” to the Corps as well…some of the fightinest buggers on God’s green Earth…also some damn fine people!

May the Good Lord bless EVERY one of them.
    Carry on!

235 years of tradition unmarred by progress 🙂 Semper Fi folks!

  3. He Said His Telephone Number Was 911 says:

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”
Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945
