NEW YORK (AP) — MSNBC has suspended prime-time host Keith Olbermann indefinitely without pay for contributing to the campaigns of three Democratic candidates this election season.

Olbermann acknowledged to NBC that he donated $2,400 apiece to the campaigns of Kentucky Senate candidate Jack Conway and Arizona Reps. Raul Grivalva and Gabrielle Giffords.

NBC News prohibits its employees from working on, or donating to, political campaigns unless a special exception is granted by the news division president — effectively a ban. Olbermann’s bosses did not find out about the donations until after they were made. The website Politico first reported the donations.

“I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night,” Phil Griffin, MSNBC’s chief executive, said Friday. “Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay.”

Olbermann was not immediately available for comment. LINK

Well maybe not the worst person in the world, but he’s certainly one of the biggest hypocrites. I detest Keith Olbermann and everything he stands for. Being the tool that he is, Olbermann broke company rules by donating money to political candidates (LEFT wing candidates no less). Since he covers politics as a professional representative of his employer, he is not allowed to donate money that way. His employer, rightly so, values the appearance of impartiality that news reporters are SUPPOSED to have (no matter how thinly veiled Olbermann’s objectivity is disguised). By breaking these rules, Olbermann has brought controversy and scandal to his organization. Instead of reporting the story, he has now become it.

Never known for his objectivity or penchant for getting a story correct, Olbermann has long been a mouthpiece for the insane left, masquerading as an objective journalist. What little credibility he had is now absolutely vanished. I suspect that Keith Olberman (with his colossal ego) may not even care about the potential damage that something like this can do to the organization he works for. But then again he doesn’t strike me as someone who gives a rats ass about any of the “little people” anyway. Keith Olbermann is a noxious, toxic talking head. Now, at least temporarily he’s an unemployed talking head. That’s a good thing.

What an idiot. Well, I guess that goes without saying, really.

  3. James McPherson says:

True, Olbermann shouldn’t have done it. But it’s accepted practice at Fox News:

    • Irrelevant what FOX news does. Olbermann broke HIS companies rules because he is an arrogant hack. FOX doesn’t place those restrictions on every one of their persoanlities because they aren’t all straight news people. Some are opinion commentators like O’Riley and Hannity. Others are reporters like Greta.

I know when I want my unbiased news, I go to Media Matters. Might as well post a story from Little Green Footballs.

Either way, the point is that Olbermann was suspended for violating his employer’s rules. If a commentator at FOXNews violated company rules, they should be suspended as well.

  5. James McPherson says:

I certainly wasn’t trying to pretend MM was unbiased, and I’m sure you aren’t suggesting that Fox folks don’t make those donations. And you’re right about the flouting of rules, which is why I said Olbermann shouldn’t have done it.

I think it’s sad that Fox doesn’t have such a policy, especially for an organization with “News” in its name.

    • Wyatt Earp says:

      Yes, you’re probably right:

“We now have another million reasons why Fox News is the Republican news channel, correct?” Olbermann asked Media Matters president Eric Burns.

Olbermann said that GE, MSNBC’s parent company, donated an equal amount of money to both the DGA and RGA. He didn’t mention, however, that according to, in 2008, 100 percent of MSNBC Cable’s donations went to Democrats and 99 percent of NBC’s donations went to Democrats.

Additionally, so far in 2010, 100 percent of ABC News’s donations have gone to Democrats and CBS Corporation’s PAC has contributed $51,000 to Democrats in 2010.

      Wow, ABC News. Interesting.

If he is not the Worst person in the world, he is a contender for biggest douche bag in the world.

  7. Lisa M says:

As vile as Olbermann is, I don’t think he was really fooling anyone as an “objective” journalist. Hell, MSNBC has completely dropped that pretension with their new “Lean Forward” campaign. So while Olby should have a.) been aware of the rules and b.) shouldn’t have broken them, MSNBC is kind of ridiculous for imposing rules like this on their on-air personalities, isn’t it? I mean, how much money, exactly, is Olbermans constant pumping for lefty candidates worth is actual dollars, anyway?

NBC has rules??????????? When did that start?..hahahahaha
