PIC OF THE DAY

Statue of Philly’s last great Mayor Frank Rizzo in front of the Municipal Services Building (AKA “The MSB”) directly across from City Hall. I say great because he was from an era when big city Mayors were kings of their realm. Indeed Mayor Rizzo was a figure who was larger than life. He appointed his brother Joe Rizzo (a Captain at the time) as the Fire Commissioner and his son Frank Jr. (Franny) is a City Councilman today. Frank Rizzo was a Democrat in a time when democrats actually believed in what they said, like taking care of Joe Six-Pack.  LINK

We drive by this statue all the time in work. It reminds me of when I was a kid. There is a good book about the late Mayor if you are interested:

To say the Rizzo family has had a tremendous impact on the history of this city is an enormous understatement.

    I remember talking to folks I served with in the military who were from Philly and always called Rizzo the “king”…
