In another vein, today I want to thank a special Philadelphian and local hero Joey Vento, owner of Geno’s Steaks in South Philly. The reason I picked him today, is this week is the 25th anniversary of the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner by SCUMBAG murderer Mumia Abu Jamal. Mr. I’m not going to get into the details of the case. For that check out Wyatt’s blog where he nailed down the facts @ Mr. Vento has been a vocal and charitable patron of the philadelphia police for many years and has been personally involved in many Daniel Faulkner events here in town. As they say in da neighborhood-Joey’s a standup guy. He also made headlines recently by requesting patrons place their order in GASP-ENGLISH! Imagine that. On top of it all he also makes what can only be described as the prototypical Philadelphia cheesesteak. Once you’ve had one you getthe T-shirt. They’re frigging awesome. ANY chance I get to get down to south Philly I sneak over and grab one. Check out the reviews below. Happy eating. Gotta get back to the mill! Captainden

The best are at Geno’s. Maybe its because they stay open so late. After a night of boozing nothing tastes better than a Geno’s provolone and onions cheesesteak. Jim’s also has some very good ones.Submitted by Frank Rizzo (, Fri., June 13, 1997
I grew up in Philly and now live in Omaha, Nebraska for over 15 years. I still say that Geno’s on 9th St. in Philly has the best sandwich and fries. Omaha has lots of beef, but no one can match Geno’s…. Boy do I miss those sandwiches….Submitted by, August 8, 1997
GENOs steaks are the BEST. I grew up in Philly and ate Geno’s cheese steaks almost every night. I live in VA and really miss Geno’s there is no other place like it.Submitted by, May 4, 1997
#1(tie) When you’re in South Philly, and yes if you’re checking out a game at the Vet you’re in South Philly. You have to have a steak at Geno’s!! The meat is cut thick, the cheese is always fresh, the rolls are perfecto. One thing… You gotta order it right or it’s like the Soup Nazi, “no soup for you!” Order it like this…. Your cheese (Provolone, American, Whiz (cheez whiz) and with or without (onions) and you can get sauce with it as well. For example: “Provolone without” Provolone cheese steak without onions. Important note: It’s open late. You’re on Delaware AV clubbing you have to hit Geno’s.Submitted by Mike Cunningham (, who I’ve dubbed the Cheesteak Guru! Sept. 21, 1996

Mmmm… there’s nothing better than a steak from Geno’s… especially after a long night out at the bars or at the game!

    Greatest steaks . . . EVER!

Of course, it helps that the owner is a Geat American.

Geat American? What is he related to Beowulf or something?
