SO Arlen Specter has finally stabbed his party and the people who elected him in the back for the last time. His defection today to the Democrats comes as no real shocker. He’s been in the liberal camp forever. For the record, I consider Arlen Specter to be the most despicable type of politician – a traitor. He is a traitor because like all traitors he sells out his group when he sees his personal fortune about to change. He was about to be smoked in the upcoming Republican primary, so instead of standing up and fighting for his convictions as a “moderate,” he switches parties. His personal grip on power means more to him than the people who put him in office. (Remember that Democrats – you get what you pay for).
He is also a coward for not standing and fighting. His party is down due in large part to people like him who refuse to stand up for the party’s stated positions. Small government, lower taxes and personal responsibility. Instead of advocating those core values, Specter joined right in the Obama Administration’s orgy of spending, blowing the budget apart just like previous Congresses have done.
The reason we have a Republican party is to advance THE OPPOSITE AGENDA of the Democrat party. For way too long Arlen Specter has sold out conservatives in Pennsylvania. We have finally had enough of it and now he is defecting like Benedict Arnold. He has nothing but contempt for the Republican primary voters. I really loathe this guy.
I also consider him a liar. Not six weeks ago Arlen Specter pledged that he would not leave the Republican Party, because he believes so strongly in our two party system, and we are dangerously close to a one party system. Uh huh. Blah, blah, blah. Now we will get to see this world-class dishrag pontificate as he votes with the liberals for more spending, bigger government and socialism at every turn. We’ll see what kind of moderation he brings to the left. If anyone needs moderation, it’s this administration. Something tells me we’ll see nothing but party line votes from this traitor.
Arlen Specter represents EVERYTHING that is wrong in American politics. He’s a cowardly, self- serving egomaniac who has no allegiance to the people he is supposed to represent. He is unworthy to hold elected office in ANY political party. He is unworthy to represent any American anywhere.

I didn’t vote for Specter, but I did vote for Obama. I figured that as an American and an old (Ret.) Brother I still had that right. Is the Republican Party still Conservative ? That could be why their base is declining numbers wise – Republicanism and Conservatism are not (today) necessarily the same thing today.. I’ll be the first to criticize Obama and to praise him-if his actions as President merit

Randal – I voted for Toomey in the primary, then Casey (a Dem) in the general. That’s how much I despise Specter.
And he’s a frakkin’ liar. It had nothing to do with the direction the GOP was going. It had everything to do with saving his own political ass.

Randal- Bush didn’t make the Government any smaller hence a point of aggravation for conservatives. Like I mentioned before there were MANY points that conservatives vehemently disagreed with W on. The war on terrorism just wasn’t one of them. I don’t think I voted for him, but I’d be lying if I said I could remember. Are there ANY points you disagree with the liberals on?

Capt. Are the Democrats supposed to do back flips because Benedict Arlen switched parties? Arlen, the egotist, is assuming that he has the Democratic nomination rapped up. This is the last guy that I would trust but then again Casey flipped against his own father & family on the aboration issue so maybe Arlen will fit right in. Yo! Arlen you 79 step down and let some new blood in. Spend your days calling in talk radio shows and they will gloat over you and feed your ego. Brother Denny I have never wanted socialism. All I have ever asked is a fair chance to prove myself. That’s why I joined the fire service. I could have been a cop like my father, but i don’t like guns. (Yes, I believe in the right to bear arms). My dad was shot twice on the job. My younger brother became a fireman and then a disabled vet from the first Gulf War. Hell, all i want is to be a free man and the Republicans and Democrats both have taken pot shots at our freedoms in this country. I have more faith in my country and its people than to think that Obama is leading us down the road to Socialism.

Paul: Obama has nationalized the banks, the auto industry and is planning on doing it to health care next. He is spending money way out of proportion to our ability to repay it. He is crushing the economy and private enterprise with spending and taxes. You may not have wanted socialism but that’s what we are all getting from him. That’s what HE believes in.

Randal: The Government has pumped billions of taxpayer dollars into private corporations (the auto industry and the banks)and is now the controlling interest in them. That is nationalization any way you look at it. Even with all that money thrown in they STILL may go under. They will re-emerge with the government and the UAW taking “Equity” shares meaning they will now own them. You can slice that any way you want but they aren’t lies. Why weren’t they allowed to fail like the airlines? There is no Pan Am any more yet we can still fly. The other auto makers that operate here in America aren’t going under. Could it be the Unions (controlled by the left)have destroyed their own business?

If Obama failing means his socialist policies fail we will be better off as a country and I’m all for that. Name one socialist country that can hold a candle to America in any category. I didn’t vote for his hopey-change agenda of dictator hugging, America bashing, socialism, radical environmentalism, military pacifism or any of it. We were told that we HAD to pas that stimulus bill or our economy would crash in days. Yet here we are months later, no stimulus money has been loaned out by the banks, unemployment is still going up, the Dow isn’t moving and companies are still laying off. It’s time to pay close attention to what is going on.

Brother Denny one thing I do like about my country (and I like a lot) is that we still can say what we please. I have never considered myself a capitalist or a socialist, because I don’t trust “isms”. Labels tend to pidgeon hole people anyway. I never followed the party line that might makes right either. If it ever comes down to a pissing contest let us never forget that Russia has enough nukes to assure our destruction-as we do theirs and the Chinese are working hard to be number 1. And no civilization has remained # 1 in human history. What should we learn fron the great empires and civilizations that collapsed? We humans are continuing to follow paths that lead to destruction.

Paul – It’s true great civilizations fail. It took Rome 800 years. But America has surpassed every civilization in human history in 200. Economically, militarily, medically, scientifically, socially, you name it we do it better. Why is that?
Because our system of freedom and liberty – economic, political, religious and personal has unleashed the enormous potential of the individual. That has allowed individuals to seek their own destiny. To take risks and enjoy enormous success or failure with minimum interference from a overbearing government.
There is no other system ever devised that has ever come close to this level of achievement. We put a man on the moon for crying out loud. There are countries that can’t even produce enough food to feed their people or make their women walk around wearing blankets.
While no system is perfect or will ever be you don’t destroy what works you make corrections. The current administration doesn’t believe in our system. They want to destroy it and experiment with other systems that have proved to be failures. Just because some greedy players and inept politicians screwed things up is no indictment of the overall system. That is where we are headed.

And we may be on our way to fail. I just read a headline that says “World takes drastic steps to curb swine flu”. Then another headline that says “Biden remains opposed to closing border.” There you have it. Political correctness over public health. Freakin Cuba stopped flights coming from Mexico and they have the “best” health care system in the world. But we do not want to upset anybody.
The world is taking drastic steps but the US cannot even take common sense steps.
